The Meritus Difference

From day one we’ve been different.

For starters, we were founded in 2010 by five senior professionals, three of whom are female. They set the tone for who we are, how we work, and what’s important to us. Whether we are interacting with our client families, our Meritus family, or our community, empathy is at the heart of everything we do. We are a culture of acceptance and respect. We face difficult situations head on, lift each other up, and honour the power of patience.

As leaders in our community and our industry in Bermuda and around the globe, we lead by example, with passion, confidence and humility.

Uniting generations. Balancing hearts and dreams.

Our Family Forward mentality is central to helping families carry out the intention of their legacies through generations and to encouraging them to have meaningful positive impact on the world.

We believe it’s just as important for us to be available in the day-to-day as it is in the milestone moments. We are proactive, responsive, and attentive.

Even as we have grown considerably over the years, we have chosen to stay owner managed to ensure that we can always stay true to who we are.

Today, we are viewed by many local and international practitioners as the best trust company in Bermuda and globally. We are proud of that distinction as well as the honours and awards we have also received, including:

  • Global STEP Private Client Award for the best Independent Trust Company of the Year in 2015/2016, Trust Company of the Year for STEP Caribbean Awards in 2013, and Citywealth Powerwomen Awards – Company of the Year – Female Leadership (SME) – Bronze award, 2018
  • Shortlisted for Citywealth’s IFC and Magic Circle Awards in the Trust Company of the Year category since 2019
  • Female Leadership SME category at the UK Citywealth Powerwomen Awards in 2018
  • Our Managing Director, Michelle Wolfe, was shortlisted as Trustee of the Year 2019 and awarded the Citywealth Powerwomen Award 2020 for Woman of the Year – Business Growth (Boutique)

With more than 60 years of experience in the establishment and administration of international trusts and related services, Bermuda has an exemplary reputation as a discreet and secure jurisdiction for asset preservation and wealth management. The Island’s political stability, responsible and responsive regulations and tax neutrality attract a broad range of clients to whom we can offer unrivaled expertise in international portfolio diversification and prudent, stable trust management.

Much of Bermuda’s success as an international financial and business center is due to the high quality of its professional support services. Bermuda’s legal system is based on English common law, the doctrines of equity, and Acts passed by the Bermuda Legislature. The resulting system is uncomplicated and free of cumbersome restrictions imposed by excessive restraints – legal, supervisory and regulatory sometimes found in other countries.
